The course aims to teach students to understand the characteristics of the information systems used in health care. In order to structure the discussion the course introduces architecture methodology TOGAF. The architecture methodology supports understanding of the alternative viewpoints, concerns, segments, and models for characterization of the systems. Students also get introduced to main sources of complexity in developing health care systems, including interoperability, information security, usability, performance, computerized knowledge etc. The course includes overview of technical aspects of Estonian e-government platform, health information exchange platform, Health Information System, systems of health care institutions, medical registries, and statistics systems. Students have an opportunity to see presentations of and talk to experts of specific information systems.
