This course offers a basic introduction to the key ideas and themes in the fields of technology, governance, and sustainability. You'll explore important concepts like technology governance, socio-technical systems, and transformations—and learn how these ideas connect to real-world challenges and opportunities.

We’ll also dive into the main academic approaches and current debates shaping these fields today. Along the way, you’ll gain both conceptual insights and practical understanding of how technology and sustainability interact—sometimes in helpful ways, sometimes in complex or even conflicting ones.

A central theme of the course is the idea of socio-technical change—how shifts in technology and society can work together to support sustainable development.
