Physics Refresher Course

This course is designed to refresh and systematise the fundamental physics studied at school and to prepare students for further university-level courses in general physics.

The course covers five major areas: mechanics, molecular physics and thermodynamics, electrostatics, electric current, and magnetism and electromagnetic induction. The emphasis is placed on understanding the physical meaning of the main concepts and laws, recognising which physical principles apply to a given situation, and using them to solve straightforward physics problems.

The course follows a Flipped Classroom approach. Students are expected to study the lecture material before each class. Classroom time is then used to discuss difficult concepts, clarify questions, and practise problem-solving together.

Mathematical derivations are kept to a necessary minimum. The main objective is not to memorise formulas, but to learn what physical quantities and relationships mean, when particular laws can be applied, and how they can be used to analyse and solve problems.

The course concludes with a multiple-choice test covering the principal concepts and basic problem-solving skills developed throughout the course.
