The
course is designed in such a way that students can obtain general knowledge of
the main features of the European criminal law systems and understand
the main concepts of the general part of criminal law. Students are introduced to
the main rationale, principles, concepts and mechanisms of criminal law related
to national and international jurisdiction. Topics critically discussed
during class help students orientate themselves in continental and
common criminal law systems and enable them to independently solve concrete legal
problems relating to the interpretation and application of core substantive law.
Additionally,
the course facilitates understanding
of
the institutional, normative and political context and the special nature of
national and international crimes in question. Essentially, participation in
the course enables students to obtain basic skills related to drafting of legal
opinions on practical cases and situations in selected countries drawing on methods
applicable to analysis of criminal jurisprudence.
