Power electronics: the hidden technology that makes the modern world run. Today around 40 percent of the energy needs are met by electrical energy. Without power electronics, only a fraction of that could be used. Power electronic converters are in almost every electrical device. Power electronics by modern definition is conversion, switching and control of electrical energy by means of switching converters. The main focus of the advanced course of Power Electronics will be on the application and design of power electronic converters. Several special converter topologies e.g. qZS, multilevel inverters, current and voltage doubler will be introduced. Students will have opportunity to learn and use modern IT tools and methods for converter design e.g. rapid control prototyping, Hardware in the loop, software in the loop simulation. A special focus will be on the design and stability analysis of the power electronic control systems.
